You could qualify for rebates if you follow these 3 simple steps to reduce energy loss
Stopping drafts reduces home energy consumption by 15 to 30 per cent, says Bruce Young of the Atlantic Coastal Action Program Cape Breton, an environmental charity in Nova Scotia.
IDENTIFY AIR LEAKS
Get an energy audit, which is required for rebates. An auditor will conduct a blower door test to identify all leaks. Do it yourself: use a stick of incense (the smoke will move when air rushes in) to find cracks and leaks around windows, doors, electrical outlets and light fixtures.
SEAL UP YOUR HOME
Seal cracks with caulking. Install weather-stripping, and don’t forget to replace old and worn weather-stripping.
APPLY FOR REBATES
Ask the energy adviser to confirm that you’ve sealed cracks. Apply for applicable rebates.
